Fall colors, crisp air, and unfortunately, trip hazards and flu season!
Undeniably, of all the seasons, fall in the Midwest welcomes the most vibrant and beautiful shades of color!
The month of October brings us enchanting fall foliage with brilliant reds, golds, and oranges along with cool crisp mornings
of course, all things Pumpkin.
From pumpkin pie to pumpkin lattes, to pumpkin concretes our taste buds just can’t seem to get enough of these seasonal delights!
Unfortunately, with all these spectacular seasonal sensations, fall also welcomes never-ending yard work and the onset of flu season.
As those beautiful vibrant colored leaves begin to fall they can also become a hazard. Leaves can easily camouflage holes or cause obstructions in yards or sidewalks resulting in unlevel walkways and the risk for seniors to trip or slip. This becomes especially problematic when leaves get wet after a fall rainstorm. To reduce the risk of falling, be certain to have leaves raked or removed on a regular basis.
October also welcomes the onset of flu season.
It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies that protect against flu to develop in the body, so make plans to get vaccinated early this fall before flu season begins. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that people get the flu vaccine by the end of October.
So, as we welcome another beautiful fall season to the Midwest, take a moment and allow yourself to be mesmerized by the beauty of color, the warmth of a sweater in the cool crisp air while your taste buds are tantalized by the all things Pumpkin!
But don’t forget to be aware of falls hazards and prepare yourself for flu season by getting vaccinated by the end of October!
